New Mental Health Ward opens on NSW Central Coast

The Central Coast Clinic at Brisbane Waters Private Hospital in Woy Woy has expanded its mental health services, with the opening of a brand new 27-bed mental health ward.

Built at a cost of $11 million, the Central Coast’s largest private mental health unit adds an additional 27 private rooms and ensuites, with separate wards for General Psychiatry and Drug and Alcohol patients, group therapy rooms, a dedicated art space, gym and interview spaces, along with shared communal and dining areas.

“We’re delighted to be delivering exceptional care for patients on the Central Coast. As the largest private provider of mental health care, the new facility expands our existing capacity to 68 inpatient beds, while providing a purpose-built space for our doctors, staff and patients,” said Brisbane Waters Private Hospital Chief Executive, Debbra Ritter.

The expansion of the Central Coast Clinic supports the delivery of outpatient and inpatient programs, along with leading-edge treatment options including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).

“Throughout the pandemic and over the subsequent months we’ve seen an increase in demand for mental health services in both the public and private systems. The development of this additional space is recognition of this increasing demand, with exceptional facilities and dedicated care now available locally,” said Brisbane Waters Private Hospital’s Clinical Director of Mental Health, Dr Wimaladharma Ranasinghe.

“Our discreet setting, just 45 minutes north of Sydney and close to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Central Coast, is an ideal location for both local patients and those looking for an opportunity to get away from the busyness of Sydney. We’re excited to open this new space for our patients,” said Ms Ritter.

The new look Central Coast Clinic was officially opened by Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch, Healthe Care Group Chief Executive, Matt Hanrahan, Brisbane Waters Private Hospital Chief Executive, Debbra Ritter and Brisbane Waters Private Hospital Chair of Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Lan-Hoa Le.
